The importance of niche designing

I recently stumbled upon a very interesting online portfolio: www.iamboey.com.

It’s a minimalist site, in every sense of the word, but I like it. Your three options are to look at his journal (a set of interesting, albeit random comics), the news he was featured in, and, perhaps most interestingly, his coffee cup art.

What to write for my first post?

To be perfectly honest, this question has tormented me for a while now (you might have noticed the large chunk of time between this and my first post). I thought for weeks, literally dwelled upon possible topics, hoping the proverbial light bulb inside my head would all-of-a-sudden illuminate. Well, I’m here to tell you that only happens in movies. But I eventually came to this conclusion: no matter what you’re working on, be it a design, web development project, marketing, or blog post, there comes a point where you have to stop thinking about it, and just start doing it.

And so it begins…

WOOOOHOOOOO!!!

I am fully functional, people. And I’m doing it in custom-WordPress-theme style, thanks to many late nights and countless cups of coffee. This is the first theme I’ve created, and only my third web coding project, so you can understand my bias and excitement.

I created this blog because the simple fact is I love graphic and web design. I love talking about it (probably more than my family and friends care for); I love reading about it, studying it, practicing it, and, apparently, dreaming about it…? But that’s another post for another time.

Two quick things are on the agenda for this initial post: First is to welcome you. No matter who you are or where you are in the world, welcome. I genuinely want you to know you can comment on posts or contact me directly anytime.

Second, I wanted to give you an idea of what you can expect. All articles will be design-related, as much as I’d like to ramble about my own life. In addition to posts about logo and graphic design, new doors have been opened for commentary now that I’ve made the leap to web design and development.  Count on interviews, tutorials, freelance tips and tricks, and so much more.
